Gluten Free Green Bean Casserole

Green Bean Casserole is a holiday staple…especially for Thanksgiving! The traditional recipes are not safe for people that eat gluten free. Those little crispy, french fried onions contain gluten. The cream of mushroom soup, even if homemade also contains gluten. So how can you still enjoy this essential side? Make your own crispy onions and use a gluten free cream of mushroom soup.

To make the crispy onions…

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Thinly slice 2 onions and spread them in a thin later on 2 baking sheets. Pour on some olive oil, sprinkle with pepper, and sea salt. Toss around to coat.

Bake the onions for 40 minutes. About halfway through, flip the onions and switch the trays onto the opposite oven racks. The onions will be starting to brown, but don’t have to be all the way done. They will keep cooking with the casserole.

Steam the green beans and mix them in a casserole dish with the soup and seasonings.

Top with the onions and bake.

Remove from oven when it is bubbly and heated through.

Jessica, Thanks for liking my C of M soup. I stumbled on it while making the base for a green bean casserole so I had to chuckle when I saw your post! I hate frying onions so I will try your method at Christmas! Thanks and keep in touch. john

I can’t wait to try your soup. The onions I made were so good…way less hassle than frying and better for you. We just have to combine our 2 recipes and it looks like we have the perfect green bean casserole!
