How’s it going everyone? I was so happy to have Friday off of work. One of the bonuses of being a teacher is so many built in days off. I definitely needed the extra day. Work was crazy all week. When you work with young adults there are times when it feels like there is just one crisis after another. Not to mention it was a full moon this week…I am not very superstitious but I am certain that scientific research could prove a link between human behavior and the full moon (I am guessing a study already exists). On top of a crazy work week my allergies are kicking in and I have a cold. Normally this wouldn’t bother me much, but since I am pregnant I can’t take anything. Lots of tea, water, and rest for me this weekend!
Besides celebrating Easter with my grandpa, Brandon and I are just spending the weekend cleaning the house and trying to get organized. I hate clutter and I am doing my best to prepare myself for the baby stuff explosion that is about to happen in our house. Only 12 weeks left to go!
I know a protein shake doesn’t fall into the realm of all of the Easter recipes going around on the internet right now, but I think spring is the perfect time to add some new shake recipes to the meal rotation. Protein shakes are great for workout recovery, weight loss plans, and as meal replacements. It’s already almost April so if you are trying to get your summer swim suit body back on track…time to get started. I think at 6 months pregnant I will be skipping the bikini game this summer, but protein shakes are one of my favorite breakfasts and I make them several times a week. I love that you can pack in fruits, veggies, and protein into a drinkable meal that is quick and easy to make.
We have used several different proteins but lately Brandon and I have been using BiPro. It is a super clean and pure whey protein isolate. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, and unflavored. I am loving this protein because the ingredient list is minimal and it is naturally sweetened using stevia or monk fruit extract. Right now I have an offer code exclusively for Gluten Free Jess readers. If you want to try BiPro you can get 10% off using my code. (Details at the bottom of this post)
This smoothie recipe is inspired by a shake I often get at a local juice bar. Their version doesn’t include protein powder but is a delicious combo of strawberries, banana, dates, and almond butter. This recipe is my spin on it. For breakfast I would make this smoothie as one serving for myself, but it is also a filling snack if you split it into two portions.
Have a great weekend!
- 8 oz cashew or almond milk
- 1 ripe banana
- 5-6 strawberries (about 1 cup)
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 1 scoop vanilla BiPro
- 5 ice cubes
- Add all of the ingredients to a blender. I use a NutriBullet.
- Blend until everything is smooth and combined.
- Serve immediately.
